Hello everyone!
First of all I want to say hi to all new members.
I have a question to you all.
I haven't had much time too spent on DA due to big personal and emotional issues I'm dealing with and I hope someone will help me out with this group. It is not a lot of work, but I don't think it is fair if people put there effort in sharing their art or suggest a new favourite and they have to wait so long for an answer.

Group update
Welcome all new members!
I'm very happy with all contributions to the group and all suggested fav's.
I'm thinking about allowing members to write blog entries, but only if they are about finding inspiration for art or some background on how you became the artist you are today, with the focus on portraits.
I haven't been on Deviantart for a few days due to incredible migraine attacks, but I was very pleased to see there are new members and very lovely new submissions!
So watch my journals, I will let you all know when you can contribute journals!
Now I'm off to bed again.

Why portraits?
I tried many different styles and subjects over the years, but I always keep coming back to portraits, especially close-up faces.
Even as a child I had a preference drawing living things. I remember one time I was sitting on the edge of a waterway, near my aunt’s house, and I tried to draw a group of swimming ducks. Before I could finish my sketch they just flew away. I got so mad and threw down my paper and pencils and sat grumbling for hours. My aunt asked why I just didn’t draw the landscape instead and I answered that it was the most boring thing I could imagine!
I tried to persuade my little nieces to pose for me, but they

My art teacher in high school used to yell at me for being impatient and easily satisfied. She said I really had to study the objects, absorb every line, feel the passion. Sketch, sketch and re-sketch. By making studies I should have been able to dream the lines and it they would flow on the paper. So I did, only because I had to, and the results of my actual drawing were boring, childish and lifeless, which is pretty lame if you have to draw a still life.

Trying new techniques
I'm always looking at new ways and techniques to improve my illustrating skills. I watch tutorials on YouTube and on www.Ehow.com.It gives me something to hold on to and sometimes there are tricks that I already knew, but forgot about.
Today I want to share a new technique I use since recent when it comes to drawing the right proportions.
The most important thing with drawing portraits are the proportions of the face (unless your focus lies on another technique). And somehow I discovered that the proportions and the feel of it, is exactly what I’m looking for if I’m searching for a new subject. It simply
